August 30, 2020. By Radio Farda. Iran -- Navid Afkari, Iranian wrestler has been reportedly sentenced to death for participating in anti-government protests in Shiraz and Kazerun, Iran. Iranian human rights activists have reported that a court in Shiraz has sentenced a 27-year-old to two death sentences on charges that have not been officially explained. Emphasising that the death penalty is inhumane, Iran Human Rights (IHR) deems the sentences for the defendants accused of participating in the protests to be gross violations the rights to due process and calls on the international community to pressure the Iranian authorities to stop the executions of protesters. Iran's Supreme Court said on Saturday it would review the cases of three young men sentenced to death over alleged links to deadly November 2019 protests after a request from their lawyers.
